Body mist vs eau de toilette: what's the actual difference?
·4 min read
Fragrance categories sound technical. They aren't, really — the only thing that changes is how much fragrance oil is in the bottle.
The concentrations
- Body mist: roughly 1–3% fragrance oil
- Eau de cologne: 2–4%
- Eau de toilette: 5–15%
- Eau de parfum: 15–20%
- Parfum: 20–30%
What that means for you
Higher concentration means stronger projection and longer wear. An EDP can last 6–8 hours. A body mist typically lasts 3–5. That's not a bug — it's the point. A mist is meant to be sprayed liberally, layered, and reapplied without thinking about it.
When a mist is the right call
Daily use. Gym bag. Travel. Layering over an EDP for a fresh top note. Reapplying after lunch. Any time you want to smell good without the weight of a full perfume.
The price difference
A decent EDP costs £80–£200. A good body mist costs £15–£30. You're not paying for less product — you're paying for a different format, made to do a different job.
